The Uyghurs, ethnically and culturally Turkic people residing in the region of Central Asia historically known as East Turkistan, have faced systematic repression under Chinese rule for decades. Today, over 20 million Uyghurs, both within East Turkistan and in diaspora communities worldwide, continue to resist policies that threaten their centuries-old traditions, culture, and religion.

The WUC, alongside other Uyghur advocacy groups, has been at the forefront of raising awareness about the plight of the Uyghur community. Through peaceful advocacy and nonviolent means, the WUC opposes the Chinese occupation of East Turkistan and advocates for greater autonomy, religious freedom, and respect for human rights.

Notably, the WUC's efforts have garnered international attention, earning two Nobel Peace Prize nominations. To mark this milestone, the WUC hosts celebrations in Munich, Germany, gathering activists, survivors, and allies from 25 countries for solidarity and dialogue.

In recognition of the WUC's longstanding commitment to the Uyghur cause, the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) congratulates the World Uyghur Congress for their diligent work. The Uyghur community has been part of UNPO since our conception, being a key actor within our different forums for unrepresented peoples.

Our close partnership highlights the shared commitment to promote human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the dignity of all peoples, regardless of their ethnic, cultural, or religious background.
