West Papua: Harsh Prison Sentences for Protesters

Indonesian prosecutors have demanded a 17-year prison sentence for West Papuan activist Buchtar Tabuni. Tabuni is one of seven political prisoners who have been trialled in East Kalimantan. The accusations involve illegal participation in pro-independence movements. According to human rights watchdog TAPOL, the 17-years prison sentence is excessive and disproportionate.
