UNPO at "Consequences of the Recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia" Conference
Friday, 05 September 2008

UNPO attended Radboud University conference organized by the Caucasus Network.

Nijmegen, 4 September 2008 - The situation in the Caucasus has many potential consequences for all de facto independent entities striving for recognition. Indeed, the situation presents new challenges as well as opportunity in the existing international order, and warrants careful evaluation and study.

On 4 September 2008, UNPO representatives attended a conference organised by the Caucasus Network in cooperation with CICAM and Radboud University in Nijmegen, designed for NGOs, political parties, civil servants, and interested participants to discuss the long-term and short-term repercussions of the latest conflict.

Also in attendance were Ms Johanna Popjanevski, Dr Alexander Bon of the Ministry of Defense and the Dutch Defense Academy, Dr Charlotte Hille of the University of Amsterdam, and Dr Francoise Companjen of Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam.

UNPO congratulates the Caucasus Network for the successful event.
