The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will celebrate its 21st foundation day on Monday [14 July 2008], which has been declared a special non-working holiday.

The proclamation issued by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita moved the CAR event from July 15 to July 14 [2008] so that residents in the region would enjoy an extended weekend.

Officials said the theme of this year's celebration is "Moving forward! Cordillera on the high road to development."

A flag ceremony at the Baguio Athletic Bowl would kick off the celebration. Cultural presentations by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples would follow after the flag-raising event. The Regional Development Council would also hold a program at SM Baguio.

The celebration would be capped by simultaneous tree planting activities in selected areas in the region and the inauguration of the Baguio - Aritao Road.
