Following a meeting in London, the General Secretaries of UNPO and Liberal International (LI) have discussed ways of expanding existing cooperation between their respective organizations. Both bodies have substantive common ground. Since 1947 LI has worked to protect liberalism globally, while UNPO represents over sixty otherwise unrecognized nations and peoples.
Below is an article published by Liberal International:
Secretary General Marino Busdachin of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) was received by LI Secretary General Emil Kirjas at the Liberal International secretariat in London on November 20 [2007]. Discussion focused on the possibility for intensified cooperation between the UNPO and the Liberal International regarding issues focusing on the environment, minority rights, conflict prevention, and political dialogue under dictatorial regimes. Speaking on the role of the UNPO, Mr Busdachin reiterated the importance his organisation attributes to the respect for ethnicities in democracies around the world. UNPO is based in The Hague, the Netherlands, and represents over 60 nations, minorities and indigenous peoples worldwide. |
