UN appoints Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Issues

The UN Commission on Human Rights, on 25 April 2001, approved by concensus a resolution to appoint a Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of Indigenous Peoples for a period of 3 years. Guatemala and Mexico were the primary sponsors thereof.
