Buryatia: New President Nominated

A senior official from the Russian administration has been nominated by Vladimir Putin as Buryatia’s next president.

MOSCOW, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated a senior official from his administration for the post of president of the Republic of Buryatia in Siberia, whose candidacy must receive approval from the local legislature.

"The chairman of Hural [parliament], Alexander Lubsanov, has received a letter from the president, in which he proposes Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn as a candidate for president of the Republic of Buryatia," a local lawmaker said.

Vyacheslav Nogovitsyn, who was born in 1956, has been first deputy head of the Tomsk regional administration since 1999.

The presidential press service has confirmed the nomination.
