Internship / Volunteering Opportunity

UNPO has facilitated internships for students from a series of universities and institutions ranging from North America to South-East Asia, with degrees in the fields of inter alia international relations, political science, international law and political/social geography. Interns are offered a unique work experience in a multicultural environment, with English as the main working language, and will be given the opportunity to improve academic, administrative as well research skills and be exposed to key issues affecting nations and peoples in conflict zones, as well as indigenous and minority issues in general. Interns are expected to take on a variety of tasks, including; the organization and execution of conferences, seminars and other events; preparation and possible attendance at various United Nations events (depending on the period of engagement); conduct member profile and thematic research; website management; assisting in planning projects/missions and other UNPO activities.

Requirements:

Ability to run short term, self directed projects.Specialization in indigenous/minority issues, human rights, international law, conflict prevention, international history, political geography and/or conflict studies is desirable. Genuine interest in, affinity with and basic knowledge of indigenous peoples/minorities issues and human rights as well as some political skill and interest in international politics/world affairs. Excellent command of oral and written English. Additional language skills [e.g. French, Spanish, Chinese and Russian] represent clear assets. Be well versed with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of website management is welcome.Interns are expected to have a mature and flexible attitude, display good time management, be able to undertake work independently and conduct accurate research. The intern should enjoy working in an internationally oriented office where a multitude of tasks will be given. With a high degree of expectations of the student, the internship in turn promises to be an equally rewarding experience.

Please note that UNPO has a general preference for [full-time] internships of the duration of minimum four months. Starting dates are flexible. Graduates/post-graduates are also welcome to apply. Kindly note that the positions are unpaid.
