Ingushetia: British Peacemaking Centre Closed in Ingushetia
Friday, 27 January 2006

The office of the British Centre for Peacemaking and Community Development (CPCD) has been closed in the Ingushetia republic due to the lack of license, the republican Prosecutor Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov said on Friday. He explained that last year the Prosecutor’s Office checked the compliance with the law “On non-government organisations (NGO)” by foreign or other NGOs and humanitarian organisations working in the Ingushetia territory.

As a result of the inspection “three lawsuits were filed on the liquidation of the offices of the Centre for Peacemaking and Community Development, HELP (Germany) and International Medical Corps (USA) owing to the absence of permission for their activities,” the prosecutor said. The case of the American organisation is “at the stage of judicial examination,” he added.
According to the Ingush government, about 40 various international non-government humanitarian organisations are staying in the republic providing aide to Chechen refugees in Ingushetia.
