Chinas Minorities: the Case of Xinjiang and the Uyghur People (UNCHR)
Wednesday, 21 December 2005

Report on East Turkestan, prepared for the UN Commission on Human Rights, Working Group on Minorities, May 2003

Although the history of China's minority policy in Xinjiang is rather unique, it illustrates many of the challenges facing China's internal integration since the events of September 11, 2001 and the fall of the former USSR in 1991.

As such, the situation in Xinjiang and the particular case of the Uyghur provide and excellent introduction into China's minority situation and the challenges it faces in this new millennium.
