Ingushetia: EU Commission to Aid Northern Caucasus

NAZRAN (Ingushetia), April 12 (RIA Novosti) - A European Commission delegation on a working visit to the North Caucasus is to meet with Ingush President Murat Zyazikov.

The delegation came to the North Caucasus to gauge the situation in the area and prioritize humanitarian assistance for the national republics of the region.

Head of the delegation Hughes Mingarelli, chief of the East European Directorate of the European Union's foreign relations department, had held a number of closed conferences with representatives of humanitarian organizations proactive in the North Caucasus.

Meeting with Ingushetia's leaders, Mingarelli expressed his hope for the European Commission to be able to obtain unbiased information on the situation in Ingushetia and gauge the scale and type of humanitarian aid in the health protection and education fields.

In particular, Mingarelli said that he had "anticipated the upcoming meetings to try and understand how our relations can be bolstered."

"It is very important for us to discuss the issues of common interest in a comprehensive and frank manner," he added. The delegation is to visit several health care and education institutions in Nazran and Karabulak, including a clinical hospital, the first Ingush maternity hospital now under construction, schools and lycees.

In addition, the European Commission delegation is to visit in Karabulak the places where forced migrants tend to settle.
