Tatarstan: Regional Seminar of UNESCO on Protection of non-material Cultural Heritage |

In the information received by AzerTAj, it is stated that
on December 15 in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, opened a regional seminar
of UNESCO on protection of non-material cultural heritage. Ambassador of Goodwill
of UNESCO, the spouse of the President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva attends
the event. 49 countries of Europe and Northern America are represented at the
seminar.
Discussed are expected the international Convention adopted
in October last year in Paris at the 32nd session of UNESCO. The Convention
envisions preservation and propaganda of the non-material cultural heritage
– national holidays, customs and traditions, masterpieces of music and
folklore of numerous peoples.
One of such holidays is the national holiday of the Tatar people,
Sabantuy. On initiative of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia offered to include
this holiday to the list of folklore and non-material heritage of UNESCO. The
holiday ages eight centuries and is not only holiday of Tatars, but also of
the peoples of the Volga region and other regions of Russia.
