A free economic zone must be established; I consider this to be a topical issue, president Murat Zyazikov of Ingushetia told a press conference in Moscow today.

In his words, normative-legal acts, as well as natural and human resources, already make it possible to set up such a free economic zone. We must streamline the required machinery, Mr. Zyazikov told those present. I will also make this proposal to the Russian leadership; meanwhile the Economic Development and Trade Ministry has already drafted preliminary documents in this sphere, Mr. Zyazikov stressed.

The republic is finishing this year in the black, Mr. Zyazikov went on to say. We have built quite a few facilities, creating about 8,000 jobs inside the agro-industrial sector, Mr. Zyazikov noted.

In Mr. Zyazikov's opinion, his republic boasts a favorable investment climate. Our own revenues have soared 300 percent, Mr. Zyazikov stressed. A more substantial and socially-oriented republican budget will be implemented next year, he said.

Addressing the business community, Zyazikov promised that everyone, who wishes to do business in the Ingush republic, will be entitled to tax breaks, receiving land plots all the same; business protection will also be provided.

The Ingush free economic zone had already existed throughout the 1994-1997 period.
