The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania issued a press release stating that they would support a government only if it would undertake the enlargement of minorities’ rights.
Below is a press release issued by the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania:
- In principle, for the DAHR it is conceivable to enter to government with any of the parliamentary parties, but it could support only a government that would commit itself for reforms, not in national matters, but concerning the enlargement of national minorities rights. – declared Markó Béla, president of the DAHR, at a press conference held in Targu Mures, last weekend. The Alliance president underlined, that the DAHR is not disposed to enter a governmental coalition only for some budgetary resources, but more conditions that are essential should be granted: the enlargement of the national minorities’ rights, acceleration of the infrastructural developments, promoting the economy, and at the same time the elaboration and implementation of a suitable anti-crisis legal package.
Referring to the government’s responsibility assuming from last week, Markó Béla stated: in principle, the opinion of the DAHR is that the government should abstain form these practices, but on the other hand, the fact that the government assumed responsibility on not one but three different laws is also questionable. Still, taking into consideration that there is no reliable majority in the parliament, and is not sure that after a parliamentary debate would have a positive outcome, the alliance has accepted that the gov’t is adopting such important rules by assuming responsibility.
The DAHR president stated: the assumed law on education is good, since it makes relevant steps forward for the enlargement of the national monitories education. Still, the DAHR is discontented with the fact that on the field of history and geography courses no amendments have been accepted. While, during the negotiations with the governmental coalition party leaders and the minister of education, it seemed that the amendments on this issues were agreed, in the last minute the prime minister rejected the DAHR amendment. Markó Béla stated: it is an important achievement that from this time on, Romanian language courses will be different not only for the I-IV Hungarian classes, but until tenth grade Hungarian children will learn Romanian from specific course books and curriculum.
- The bill was not improved as much as we would have liked, or as much as it would have been possible, and we are sincerely dissatisfied because of that. Still, the bill is a good one, and that’s why we did not entered a motion of no confidence on this law but on that of salary law, since this is the most debated one. If the motion of no confidence is voted, not the educational law will fail, but the salary law and the government. Still, it is hardly credible. – pointed the president. |
