Tatarstan: Council of Europe's Human Rights Commissioner to arrive in Kazan

On Saturday a Council of Europe delegation, led by Human Rights Commissioner Alvaro Jil-Robles, will arrive in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan in the Volga federal district.

Ella Pamfilova, chairperson of the human rights commission under the Russian president, is included in the delegation.

During the four-day visit, the commissioner will have meetings with Mintimer Shaimiev, President of Tatarstan, lawyers, journalists and representatives of ethnic-cultural autonomies. Alvaro Jil-Robles is also scheduled to visit the Interior Ministry, pre-trial detention centres and military units.

On July 15 Alvaro Jil-Robles arrived in Russia to prepare a report on the human rights protection in Russia.
