The 8th annual Hmong Arts and Music Festival, sponsored by the Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT), will be held Saturday [22 August 2009] in the Western Sculpture Park on Marion Street in St. Paul.

The theme for this year’s festival is “No Word for Art.” The festival highlights include a visual art tent, showcasing a collection of work by Hmong artists; the master gallery, an exhibit of juried artwork by five artists; a main stage, which will feature traditional and contemporary musicians and performers; a singer-songwriter competition; a community art project; a youth tent; a cake-decorating contest; and games, vendors and food.

An estimated 3,000 people attended last year’s [2008] festival. This year’s event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
