President Vladimir Voronin has had a bilateral meeting with Turkish head of state Ahmet Necdet Sezer, according to the presidential press service.

The officials welcomed the good friendship and cooperation relations between Moldova and Turkey and expressed mutual interest in deepening and extending collaboration in different sectors.

The Turkish head of state said that existence of the Gagauzian autonomy in Moldova provided with all conditions necessary for social, economic and cultural development is an important factor in the dialogue between the two states.

In the context, Voronin highlighted the positive evolution in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and specified that the autonomous Gagauzian model opens up large possibilities of strengthening and developing the territorial administrative unit within the united Moldova. Voronin underscored that Gagauzia was among the first regions of Moldova where gas pipelines were constructed and projects of supplying drinking water to Gagauzia s settlements are underway. Also, the Comrat-based State University is being renewed.

Ahmet Necdet Sezer reiterated Turkey's position on Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity and emphasised that security in the Black Sea region depends on Moldova's stability as well.

President Voronin pointed out that the two states enjoy the legal framework necessary to develop bilateral relations and referred to the possibilities it provides, including of enhancing economic cooperation between the two states. In the context, Voronin mentioned that there is an impressive number of Turkish companies running successfully in Moldova.

Ahmet Necdet Sezer underlined the Turkish side's interest in making more dynamic the Moldovan-Turkish economic relations and positively appreciated the fact that trade operations between our countries significantly increased in 2006 against 2005.

President Ahmet Necdet Sezer invited the Moldovan head of state to pay an official visit to Turkey and voiced conviction that it will help render more dynamic the Moldovan-Turkish relations at all the levels.
