Somaliland: Talks Held with Ethiopian Premier


The parties discussed various bilateral issues, including the prospects for closer economic ties and building on the fragile peace that has emerged from recent violence.

Addis Ababa - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and President of the Somaliland Dahir Riyale Kahinon yesterday held discussions on various bilateral issues.

The discussion the two sides held focused on the economic cooperation that should be created between peoples of Somaliland and Ethiopia.

Kahinon on the occasion said people of Somaliland fully recognize the role Ethiopia plays in bringing lasting peace and stability in Somalia.

A senior government official who attended the discussions quoted the President as saying that Ethiopia plays an important role in the efforts geared toward creating a stable and peaceful Somalia.

He also expressed joy over the victory over the terrorist forces in Somalia, the official said.

The official also said that the two sides have discussed ways of furthering the economic ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The two sides have held constructive discussions on ways of tackling the problems that Ethiopian and Somaliland people could face, the official added.
