Abkhazia: UN Security Council to Prolong Observers Mandate


The UN Security Council is to adopt a resolution on March 30 to prolong mandate of the UN Observers in Abkhazia expiring on March 31

The UN Security Council is to adopt a resolution on March 30 to prolong the mandate of the UN Observers in Abkhazia expiring on March 31.

The situation in Georgia will be discussed at the UN Security Council session on March 28, Prime-News was told by the representatives of the UN office in Georgia.

“The group of the UN Secretary General’s friend countries hopes for adoption of the resolution that will be easy for implementation by the parties in conflict”, Prime-News was told by Giorgi Volski, Georgian Deputy State Minister for Conflict Resolution.

According to him, the officials of the group of the UN Secretary General’s friend countries plan to visit Georgia and Abkhazia after adoption of the resolution.

The UN Observers Mission in Georgia was found in 1994; presently 122 employees are working in it.
