Kurdistan: UN Envoy Meets President

Welcoming the UNs assistance, President Barzani stressed the need for continued active engagement. In response, Qazi pledged that the UN would stay the course in Iraq, UNAMI said
Recent political developments in Iraq topped the agenda of a meeting in Baghdad this week between the senior United Nations envoy to the country and the Kurdistan Region President. Secretary general Kofi Annan’s special representative, Ashraf Qazi, and President Masoud Barzani on Tuesday reviewed the December election results, the Constitutional review process and the formation of the new Iraqi Government, according to the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

Welcoming the UN’s assistance, Barzani stressed the need for continued active engagement. In response, Qazi pledged that the UN would “stay the course in Iraq,” UNAMI said.

Qazi also congratulated Mr. Barzani on a recent agreement which paves the way for a single administration in the Kurdish region, calling it “an important development in institution-building.”
