Abkhazia: Georgians to receive Documents on Residence Permission

The adoption of Russian citizenship by Abkhazia's residents does not mean that Abkhazia has joined Russia. We are building independent state. We will never be unified state with Georgia but we are ready to back good neighborhood relations with Georgi

The parliament speaker of the breakaway region of Abkhazia Nugzar Aushba has made comment regarding the newly adopted law on citizenship.

Aushba said that "The adoption of Russian citizenship by Abkhazia's residents does not mean that Abkhazia has joined Russia. We are building independent state. We will never be unified state with Georgia but we are ready to back good neighborhood relations with Georgia."

"We will not force anyone to obtain Abkhaz passports and citizenship... If the residents of the district of Gali have Georgian citizenship and do not want to reject it, they will receive documents on residence permission in Abkhazia," Aushba stated.

Yesterday Aushba made those statements at the meeting with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Georgia Ivo Petrov.
