Abkhazia: Presidential elections announced valid

The official turnout is nearly 54% according to the latest figures
The presidential elections in Abkhazia have been officially announced valid, Batal Tabagua, the head of Abkhazia’s Central Electoral Commission, told reporters late on Wednesday.

The official turnout is nearly 54% according to the latest figures.

All the polling stations in Abkhazia closed at 20:00 local time (19:00 Moscow time). Tabagua said that 68,000 voters out of 123 included in the register of voters had turned up at the polling stations. He said that the percentage ratio would be announced later because those figures were just preliminary.

Under a law “On New Elections of the President of Abkhazia”, the polls should be considered valid if no less than 50% of the voters included in the register of electors take part in them.
