Somaliland: Movie Denounces Social Practice Of Genital Mutilation

In a refugee camp of the city Hargeisa, staff members of the project “Protection of Minors”, supported by the European Commission, realized from scratch a short film shedding light on the crime of female genital mutilation, which is a social practice in the country.

Below is an article published by Somalilandsun:

Who said that many serious problems that afflict the poorest societies in developing countries, but not only there, cannot be addressed with a smile and a small camera?

In the refugee camp Stadium in the city of Hargeisa, Somaliland, Cesvi staff of the project "Protection of Minors" supported by the European Commission demonstrated it: thanks to the professionalism and dedication of our social communicators, we gathered to produce a short film entirely conceived, written and performed by members of the community on the issue of female genital mutilation, surrounded by a large crowd of curious and unexpected.

The comedy, albeit with a sympathetic tone, addresses the drama of this social practice carried out in many countries in Africa and the Middle East, which often binds to the initiation rites of young men who are circumcised before puberty.
