Below is a the statement issues by Mapuche organisations in Europe:

Mapuche in Germany and the Netherlands have started a hunger strike in support of Mapuche political prisoners in Chile.

Through this public statement from Europe, we announce the decision to join the hunger strike that Luis Humberto Marileo, Cristian Pablo Levinao Melinao, Leonardo Quijon Pereira, Cristian Curinao Catrileo and the Machi Celestino Córdova are leading from the Angol and Temuco jails, Chile, all of them being Mapuche political prisoners.

With this hunger strike we want to express our solidarity with Mapuche political prisoners in Chile and denounce the actions of the Chilean authorities, so that the State anti-terrorism law be finally abrogated. This law is still enforced and serves as a tool of political repression against Mapuche communities. Consequently, we support the following demands:

- The immediate transfer of the political prisoners to the Centro de Educación y Trabajo (CET) in Angol, noting that this request was granted and signed in at least three previous strikes but has still not been implemented

- Humanitarian pardon for the lamngen José Mariano Laanca Tori, who suffers from a terminal illness that has severely compromised his liver, triggering a hepatic cirrhosis. The pardon has already been requested and refused during the Sebastián Piñera government, and we hope for speedy precisions about this request from the current authorities.

- The immediate transfer of the Machi from the Temuco jail to the Penal Colony of Vilcún. According to the rights enshrined in Convention 169, recognized by Chile at the international level, he should be able to perform his spiritual and cultural role, as well as his permanent relation with everything that nature means within our territory because of his Machi status.

- The revision of sentences of the five accused, in light of the distrust caused by the legitimacy of the anti-terrorism law, in particular the use of witnesses protected by the State and who enjoy certain privileges, including providing testimonies the validity of which cannot be ascertained.

The political violence facing the Mapuche community, following constant political persecution under the form of raids, physical and psychological violence against families, women and children, is an untenable situation that goes against the fundamental rights of every human being. It is widely known that one of the concrete effects of this law is the constant criminalization of the various demands the Mapuche are advocating for, which is exemplified by the situation currently facing the 5 political prisoners on hunger strike.

In light of these elements, we ask the authorities of the Republic of Chile, President Michelle Bachelet, her cabinet, as well as all members of the lower and upper houses of the National Congress to demand the immediate abrogation of the anti-terrorism law and the demilitarization of the Mapuche communities, as well as an end to the complete negation, repression and invisibilization of the Mapuche people.

In turn, we make the same demands to all the citizens of the Republic of Chile and citizens’ movements in general, and extend this statement to the international community so that they can support these demands in different ways.

Mapuches en Alemania y Holanda inician huelga de hambre en apoyo a los presos Mapuche en Chile.

Mediante el presente comunicado público, desde Europa anunciamos la decisión de unirnos a la huelga de hambre que sostienen en estos momentos Luis Humberto Marileo, Cristian Pablo Levinao Melinao, Leonardo Quijon Pereira, Cristian Curinao Catrileo en la cárcel de Angol y Machi Celestino Córdova en la cárcel de Temuco, Chile, todos ellos presos políticos mapuche.

Con esta huelga queremos mostrar nuestra solidaridad con los presos mapuche en Chile y denunciar a las autoridades chilenas para que finalmente sea derogada la ley antiterrorista del estado, la que se encuentra vigente y rige como un modo de persecución política constante en contra de las comunidades mapuche. En consecuencia, las peticiones que apoyamos son las siguientes:

- Traslado inmediato al Centro de Educación y Trabajo (CET) de Angol, ya que dicha petición fue acordada y firmada en a lo menos tres huelgas anteriores y hasta el momento no ha sido cumplida.

- El indulto humanitario respecto al lamngen José Mariano Llanca Tori, quien sufre una enfermedad de carácter terminal, la que tiene comprometido severamente su hígado, desencadenando una cirrosis hepática. El indulto ya fue solicitado y rechazado durante la administración de Sebastián Piñera, por ello, se espera una pronta concreción de dicha petición por parte de la autoridad actual.

- Traslado inmediato del Machi desde la cárcel de Temuco a la Colonia Penal de Vilcún. Por el derecho establecido en el Convenio 169 y reconocido por el estado de Chile a nivel Internacional, de cumplir con su rol espiritual, cultural y la relación permanente con todo lo que significa la naturaleza dentro de nuestro territorio por su condición de machi.

- La revisión de las condenas aplicadas a los cinco inculpados, debido a las suspicacias que causa la legitimidad de la ley antiterrorista. En particular el uso de los testigos protegidos por el estado, quienes al tener ciertos privilegios, dan testimonio sin poder ser verificados la validez de los mismos.

La violencia política que vive la comunidad mapuche, la que remite a constantes persecuciones políticas, como son los allanamientos, la violencia física y psicológica hacia las familias, mujeres y niños, es una situación insostenible que atenta contra los derechos fundamentales de todo ser humano. Como es sabido, uno de los efectos concretos de
esta ley es la constante criminalización de las diversas reivindicaciones por las que abogan las comunidades mapuche, cuyo ejemplo lo podemos ver en la situación que viven actualmente los 5 presos políticos en huelga de hambre.

Dado lo anterior, nos dirigimos a las autoridades de la República de Chile, a la presidenta señora Michelle Bachelet, a su gabinete, así como también a los miembros de la cámara alta y baja del congreso nacional para exigir la inmediata derogación de la ley antiterrorista, y la consecuente desmilitarización de las comunidades, así como el fin a la completa negación, represión e invisibilización del pueblo mapuche.

A su vez, nos dirigimos a todos los ciudadanos de la República de Chile y movimientos ciudadanos en general, haciendo extensivo también este comunicado a la comunidad internacional para que apoyen bajo distintos
modos estas demandas.
