Somaliland: Peace Building Training Comes To An End


Trainees from Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia took part in a five days international peace building and peace operations training in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

The five days international peace building training taking place at the University of Hargeisa (UOH) courtesy of the University's Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies (IPCS) in conjunction with Pisa based Italian Scuola Superiore Santa Ana has come to an end with issuance of certificates to all trainees in a colorful ceremony witnessed by high various dignitaries at the University's main campus.

Among the Government representatives in attendance included the minister for planning Hon. Dr. Saad Shire who while addressing the trainees challenged them to constructively employ the skills acquired in the training to solve imminent security related problems facing the nation. Dr. Saad thanked the funders of the training program while at the same time reminding the audience of how the country has perfected mediation & arbitration mechanisms like the just resolved dispute of the members & ex-officials of the national assembly by the house of elders.

The training dubbed "Introduction to peace building & peace operations for civilian" kicked [off] on the 16th & ended on 20th February with funding from the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry's department for global affairs.

The IPCS Director Adam Haji Ali wished the trainees a good luck in their life endeavors and assured that this is just the beginning as other international trainings would be rolled by the institute in the near future to combat security related challenges affecting East & Horn of Africa region.

The University's President gave the votes of thanks address and bid farewell to trainees coming from neighboring nations of Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti as well as Somalia which he opined that the skills would help them tackle instability related threats.

IPCS is one of the vigorous departments/faculties in UOH that has constantly been in the forefront in terms of clamoring for effective positive change and supporting progressive initiatives in the country.
