Iraqi Kurdistan: Cooperation Between Iraqi Kurdistan And Iran


Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Hossein Danayeefar and Second Deputy of the Iraqi President in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party Barham Salhel have expressed their satisfaction over the development of cooperation and collaboration between Iraqi Kurdistan and Iran, which would ideally strengthen the unity of the people in the region.

In a meeting between Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Hossein Danayeefar and Second Deputy of the Iraqi President in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party Barham Saleh in Erbil, the two official stressed the need for further expansion of all-out ties between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan. 

The officials also underlined that consolidation of relations between the two sides would also strengthen the unity among people in the region.

In July [2013], Kurdistan region's Minister for Construction and Housing Kamran Ahmad said that the annual trade ties between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan region have exceeded $4bln in value, thanks to the two sides' growing cooperation.

He also said that both sides, specially the Islamic Republic of Iran, are eager to further increase their trade relations with each other.

Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
