Meeting with Biram Dah Abeid

On Thursday the 30th of May 2013, UNPO will hold a small conference in The Hague where the Mauritanian anti-slavery activist Biram Dah Abeid is our guest speaker.

 Thursday, 30th of June 2013, 18.00-19.45
Conference Room 4th Floor, Laan van Meerdervoort 70
The Hague, the Netherlands

On behalf of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), you are invited to attend a small conference where the Mauritanian anti-slavery activist Biram Dah Abeid is our guest speaker. Slavery is still a common practice in Mauritania as 20% of the population is still a victim of slavery. Join us to discuss this issue with Biram Dah Abeid.

During the event we will screen part of CNN’s documentary “Slavery’s last stronghold” that shows the situation of the Haratin in Mauritania, and the work Biram Dah Abeid is doing as president of Initiative pour la Résurgence du Mouvement Abolitionniste (IRA) in Mauritania.

After the screening of the documentary, Biram Dah Abeid, who recently won the Front Line Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk, will give a speech.

UNPO will also launch their new campaign "Proud2Bfree". A campaign to raise money for a project in Mauritania, which will provide former slaves rescued by IRA Mauritania with a training to learn skills and tools to start their own activity and become independent.

18.00 – 18.15: Walk in
18.15 – 18.45: Screening of documentary “Slavery’s last stronghold”
