Abkhazia: OSCE Praises Country For Respect Of Languages


On Monday 16 July, Abkhaz President Ankvab met with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Knut Vollebaek to discuss the issue of minority languages.

Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab has met the Knut Vollebaek, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, in Sukhumi, Apsnypress reports.

The OSCE official expressed hope for fruitful cooperation with Abkhaz authorities. He noted interest in the problem of studies of Abkhazian and Georgian languages at the Galsky District.

Abkhazia has no problems in studies of languages, Vollebaek said.

The OSCE representative believes that the process of Geneva talks is too slow. He promised to write a report about his visit to the region and will present it to Ankvab.

Vollebaek met the secretary of the Abkhaz Security Council, foreign minister, education minister and other officials.
