Crimean Tatars: An Appeal to Julia Tymoschenko


As the Ukrainian opposition leader languishes and concern deepens about her state of health, the Presidium of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis urges an end her hunger strike in a public appeal.

Dear Julia Vladimirovna,

We, in Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people are very concerned with the sharp worsening of your health condition and direct threat to your life as a consequence of your hunger strike in protest of the lawlessness and repressions, committed by the present authorities against you.

We realize that this way you manifest your last form of combat against the injustice and humiliation.

Today the whole democratic world expresses its solidarity with you and demands the immediate termination of lawlessness and illegality, committed against the opposition in Ukraine.

The future of Ukraine and Crimean Tatar people that linked with the Ukrainian people by the common past and hopes for the establishment of the democratic norms in Ukraine that will ensure it the deserved place in the community of the European peoples, you life and your participation in these processes are very necessary.

We would like to add that during the hard times of fighting of the Crimean Tatar people against the Communist regime of the USSR the activists of the Crimean Tatar national movement also resorted to hunger strikes, being in prison as the last form of their protest against the lawlessness and repressions. But when the strikers faced with an extreme form of exhaustion and they appeared on the edge of the death the prison guards used to inject forcibly special feeding formula to striker’s body.

Dear Julia Vladimirovna, sympathizing with your pain and realizing your readiness to self-sacrificing for the sake of Ukraine, we state – Ukrainian society needs you life and health, given by the God.

We beg you stop the hunger strike.

Let’s stay together to the victory.
