Cabinda: New Measures to Protect Local Culture

While broader political issues remain to be addressed, Cabinda’s provincial secretary of culture has announced support for cultural centres and the organisation of school theatre groups.

Below is an article published by Agência Angola Press:

Authorities of the northern Cabinda Province will prioritise this year a specific programme of retrieval and promotion of traditional rhythms and harmonies, ANGOP has learnt.

This was announced by the provincial secretary of culture, Francisco Ngó.

He said that there will also be works on typological and comparative studies about the traditional choreographic expressions, the application of decrees on the shows and leisure activities, the organisation of theatre groups in schools, churches, wards and communes.

Trainings for authors and stage directors, the construction of three cultural centres in the province's capital city, as well as the recovery of dance clubs in wards and village are also on the agenda.

He also called on the participation of the whole society in the fight against values that come from abroad, susceptible of altering the identity, representing a serious threat to children, traditions, habits and customs of the region.
