Transporters of Balochistan have announced a wheel jam strike across the province for indefinite period against highway robberies, kidnapping for ransom and increase in the prices of fuel and other daily commodities.

The announcement came from leaders of different transport organizations, including Noor Muhammad Shahwani, Akthar Muhammad Kakar, Abdull Kurd, Abdul Kabeer Bazai and others while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

They said that all National Highways connecting Quetta-Chaman, Quetta-Zhob, Quetta- Karachi, Quetta- Sibi and Quetta Taftan would be blocked from early in the morning and warned that if administration created any hurdle in this regard government would be responsible for any unpleasant situation.

“We have the support of all political and nationalist parties, including Balochistan National Party, Awami National Party and Pashtoon Khowa Milli Awami Party, which have announced their complete support to this peaceful strike”, transporters added.

They appealed to the masses to keep their vehicle off the roads and make the strike successful.

They said that highway robberies, kidnapping for ransom and hike in the prices of oil and other daily commodities were increased manifold and that had made life of common people miserable.

They said that they were taking this step as last resort because transport sector had badly affected due to inflation and increase in fuel prices and added that it had become difficult for the transporters to earn two time meal for their children.

To a query, they said that their strike is peaceful and they would not allow any body to sabotage it, however, they said that ambulances, vehicles of press and security forces would be exempted from the protest.
