This political announcement by the Crimean Tatars is a statement of their political situation and outlook in preparation for a forum on the restoration of Crimean Tatar rights.

Below is a statement issued by the Crimean Tatar Mejlis:

Resolution of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People

On preparation of the International Forum on the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar People in their Homeland, its safety and guarantees of its development in Ukraine

Holding a specialized international forum under the auspices of the European and international organizations, dedicated to the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatar People in their Homeland, its safety and guarantees of its development in Ukraine, (hereinafter – the International Forum) is reasoned by the following:

-           Necessity to remove the devastating effects of total deportation of the Crimean Tatar People, committed by the communist regime of the USSR on May 18, 1944, and the decades of enforced confinement in the places of exile;

-           Ignorant behaviour of the Ukrainian state to legally regulate restoration of the political, economical, social and cultural rights of the Crimean Tatar people, which is fraught with irreversible processes that can lead to loss of human civilization one of the most original and ancient European peoples;

-           Crimean Tatars’ desire to contribute to the formation of democratic and independent Ukraine, in which the rights of the Crimean Tatar people would be restored and respected as stipulated by international regulations on human and peoples' rights.

The idea of the International Forum was also supported by the participants of the Crimea-wide mourning meeting to commemorate victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar People – Deportation of May 18, 1944, and the decades of enforced confinement in the places of exile - that took place in Simferopol on May 18, 2010.

The Resolution, adopted by the participants of the Crimea-wide mourning meeting, entitles the  Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People, the World Congress of the Crimean Tatars and Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People to take all necessary actions to prepare and hold the International Forum within the cooperation with the European and international organizations.

In order to execute the Resolution of the Crimea-wide mourning meeting, Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People held preliminary consultations on organization of the International Forum with representatives of various international organizations and diplomatic missions accredited to Ukraine, as well as with the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the members of the European Parliament.

With the purpose to develop the agenda of the International Forum, and to coordinate the Crimean Tatar organizations – the members of the World Congress of the Crimean Tatar People, in matters related to preparation and holding of the International Forum

Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People decreed the following:

1. To establish a Working Group on preparation and holding of the International Forum (hereinafter – the Working Group),
