Somaliland: President meets with EU Delegation


During a meeting of the Somaliland President with a delegation from the European Union, the EU representative expressed his support for Somaliland and congratulated the country on its free and fair elections. Security, piracy and terrorism were also discussed during the meeting.

Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud “Siilaanyo” met with a large delegation from the European Union (EU) led by the EU representative to Somaliland and Somalia, Mr. Marc-Andre Georges.

The European Union delegation consisted of members from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Germany, Austria, andUK.

During the meeting President Silaanyo and the EU delegation discussed areas of mutual interest including the security situation in the region, as well as, Somaliland’s continuing efforts against terrorism and piracy.

President Silaanyo thanked the European Union for its support of Somaliland’s progress towards to economic recovery and capacity building.

On behalf of the European Union, Mr. Georges congratulated the Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud “Silaanyo” on the recent free and fair elections held in Somaliland, which Mr. Georges described as an example to many nations across the globe.

Mr. Marc-Andre Georges, the European Union representative to Somaliland and Somalia, stated the EU continued support of Somaliland.

The meeting held at the Presidency in Hargeisa was attended by senior officials from the Somaliland government.
