Balochistan: New Dams, New Problems?

The government has started considering plans to build four new dams in Balochistan. President Zardari has issued directives to Federal Minister Babar Awan to consult with Baloch leaders on plans to build dams in the province.

Baloch leaders Nawab Khalid Gichki, Nawab Abdul Rehman adn Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali met President Asif Zardari in Islamabad. On the occasion, President Zardari said that poor women will be given free agriculture land in the areas where dams will be built.

Zardari said that the government wants trustworthy relationship. He said that baloch leaders living overseas should also play their role in national politics. Everyone, including Balochis, will have to play their role for the stability of democracy. The president said that the Pakistan Peoples Party does not believe on politics of revenge. The Baloch leaders could play important role in national politics after general amnesty.
