Gilgit-Baltistan : Steps to Ensure Fair Polls

Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday advised the administration of Gilgit-Baltistan to take all possible steps for free,fair and transparent elections of Legislative Assembly on November 12.This he said while chairing a meeting to brief him on the preparations for the Legislative Assembly elections. Chief Secretary and other senior officials of the Gilgit-Baltistan administration briefed the Governor.


Kaira said that the PPP government has introduced a new democratic system of governance in Gilgit-Baltistan.


The Governor said, the people would elect their own representatives who would serve them and utilize their all efforts for their betterment.  He stressed that elections would be held on due date of November 12 He ruled out any delay, saying the elected representatives could bring improvement in self-governance order 2009, and this was not the final thing.


Kaira said that the government has decided not to change delimitations of the constituencies of the Legislative Assembly,which itself was manifestation of the fact that it was fully committed to free and fair elections.


The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioners of all the districts of Gilgit Baltistan.
